TRUSS INDUSTRY TROUBLES... THE MANY PLAYERS... THE MANY LIABILITIES!!!
Engineering Software Makers (click here for critical email to enforcement bodies and press)!
In my opinion, one of the many players whose role had to be looked at was that of software makers who provided truss manufacturers with engineering software used in the design of trusses! I had personally witnessed, with my own eyes, the same issues in the output of more than one such software package and the output I had seen (and had copies of) was for major players in the truss engineering software industry!

My family should not have to face lawsuits from MASSIVE corporations in order to bring to light public safety issues that must be addressed because the law requires basically NOTHING of such software makers in matters of code compliance for their software. Instead, it appears all blame for what were in my opinion "software bugs" (i.e., a bug, here defined as software that allows something to be done that should not be allowed) may end up on individual engineers who seal and/or review software output (except in our court case where the deputy judge THREE DAYS AFTER THE TRIAL WAS OVER felt it was alright to "dismiss all claims" against the high profile engineer who had sealed our truss drawings - this "amendment" to her "judgment" was not reflected in the trial transcript)!

As a past software tester of many years, let me say that engineers are NOT software testers and they would not, in my opinion, have the skills and/or time to test engineering software other than ensuring that the formulas, equations, etc. are indeed correct. They can test "the mathematics" in my opinion, but not the overall software. To properly test software would, in my opinion, require that one attempts to "break it" or to make it do what it should not do. This is completely against anything that defines a good engineer. An engineer would NOT purposely include a flaw in his work. This would go against everything that a good engineer is supposed to be. But... it would be exactly what a good code tester would do. The fact that society now faces this fiasco in the building industry should be proof enough of this fact that engineers are NOT in my opinion, good software testers!

Any further stress upon myself and/or my family in such matters, I place SQUARELY on the Government of Canada, The Province of Ontario and The City of Greater Sudbury... FOR A START!!! Given the many, many, many players... well... let me just say that a good law firm willing to help my family would be most appreciated... my documentation is thorough and extensive and when combined with my background as an MA in Finance and as a former code tester, there is a whole lot more I could reveal in these matters! The fact that our "trial" was not even heard and/or allowed to move forward speaks volumes as does the fact that our engineer had his "legal retainer" paid for by one of these major players in the industry (and I can prove that via documentation)! If I have given this to the police, it is because I felt I had no other choice!
