After having spent over three years documenting what is in my opinion a very serious breach of public trust by municipal, provincial and federal enforcement bodies that were supposed to be there to protect the public in matters of public safety as they related to building code enforcement and seeing only denial of the issues and/or attempts at only further hiding serious problems and/or misplaced loyalties and/or "not my job" responses, I was truly left with no choice but to run for mayor in order to have these issues of public safety disclosed to the public and properly addressed.
I gave my government (at all levels) plenty of time to address the issues... instead of tackling them... the government and enforcement bodies, in my opinion, chose to knowingly hide these critical issues... in spite of the Elliot Lake Mall Collapse and Inquiry (what I came to call "bread and circuses for the public" as I became convinced the government did not truly want to expose and/or address serious issues common to both building scandals). The press was of no help... choosing to remain silent rather than bring the issues to the forefront... and as such... I can no longer trust what I now call "the silent press"... Taxpayers deserve much better... from ALL "the players"...
As I launch my campaign for mayor of the City of Greater Sudbury, it is my wish to see this now burdened municipalty become a true model for others in matters of accountability and transparency... as this city begins to shed the very negative image that has come to plague a municipality... a municipality with so much to offer - to residents, to businesses, to immigrants, to taxpayers, etc.!
Greater Sudbury... We CAN do better... We CAN redefine this city...
